This was a news article
I read few months back where a lady with low vision was able to see the faces of her family with the help of a simple gadget.
It almost sounded like a dream come true when I read this article on the net. The first thing that came to my mind was how to get my hands on this gadget and use it. Sadly the details were not enough to make me understand how to go about it. Finally through some internet research and help from some friends I was able to get the entire thing together and test it out. Although the news article talks about using an android phone, I tried it on my i-phone and it worked equally good I think.
In this post I will take you through the step by step procedure to make this device for yourself and test it out . The good thing is that if you already have a smart phone then the entire thing is pretty cheap. So let’s get started:
Step1: You will require Google cardboard viewer. For those who are not familiar with the gadget, let me tell you what it is. It’s simply like a cardboard box with focal lenses on one side where you can put your eyes and a slot to slide in your phone on the other side. It also has a head band to fasten it over your head so that you don’t have to hold it with your hands. The device is pretty cheap, just about $ 15 and is readily available on Amazon and other sites.

Once you have it assembled, 50% of your work is done.
Step 2: Now install the following app on your smart phone. If you have i-phone you can install Myopia VR Glasses
, this app is free at the time I am writing this article.

Step 3: Now you are almost done and ready to rock-n-roll. Just run the app on your mobile.
Wear the Google cardboard over your head , adjusting the lenses in front of your eyes.
Now simply slide the phone in the slot opposite the lenses. The screen of the mobile should face towards you. You have to slide the phone from right to left.
And it’s done.
Slowly try looking towards a familiar part of the room and you should see the things more clear and brighter. At least that is what happened in my case.
Although the entire thing is a little bulky and might not be practical outside your home but does come handy within your house.
